Gemma Summers PhD
I work as a psychotherapist, counsellor and coach, which are different pathways to healing, growth and development. I use both process-oriented and solution-oriented approaches, always mindful of the uniqueness of each individual. My work focuses on key areas:
1. Women’s Empowerment: Health, Work, Relationships, Finances and Spirituality
Empowerment often requires becoming empowered around specific issues such as health or weight, relationships and family, work and life direction, financial or spiritual life. It also includes healing past wounds and awakening to new capacities and potentials in ourselves.
2. Relationship Work: Conflict Resolution for Inner and Outer Conflict
My graduate degree is in conflict resolution and I also teach on this topic—both inner conflict with ourselves and outer conflict with others. Relationships bring a variety of issues and opportunities, and communication skills are vital for living and loving with others.
3. Emotional Regulation: Stress Management and Self-Care
Stress, anxiety, depression and grief are very common today. It’s important to understand how emotional regulation works and to acquire good self-management strategies to stabilise your emotional life.
4. Meaning and Purpose: Life Direction, Creativity and Calling
Another big area is meaning and purpose—exploring your life direction and how to follow your creativity and inner calling. Life can feel great when you’re being true to yourself and working for the right things in your life.
5. Transitions and Change: Crisis, Opportunity and Change
Moving from one situation to another—and dealing with everything that comes up along the way—is often a very powerful time in life. Crisis can be part of change, when things happen in a very chaotic or distressing way. Support can help you ride the wave of change and sort out how best to deal with it.
6. Supervision and Consulting: For Counsellors, Coaches, Consultants and Psychotherapists
It's important to receive safe and sensitive supervisory support for one's own work. I offer customised support and input, co-designed for your practitioner needs.
7. Writing and Leading: Workshops, Training and Facilitation
I also write books and facilitate workshops, seminars and retreats on a variety of topics. Please click on my Events and Retreats pages to read more about these.
