Practice Values and Vision
My counselling and coaching practice is guided by the following values and vision:
People Focused: I believe in helping others achieve greater health, happiness and fulfillment.
Holistic: I value approaches that respect the integrity of mind, body and spirit.
Modern: My services are designed for people living in today’s rapidly changing world.
Well Researched: I believe in life-long learning and the pursuit of knowledge.
Synergistic: I combine different methods to enhance their power and effectiveness.
Relational: I believe that healing and growth happen within a relationship of safety and trust.
Gemma Summers
I've practiced as a counsellor and psychotherapist for over twenty years, and as a coach for the last ten. I enjoy being in a private practice as a unique opportunity and privilege to co-create results with clients.
In my work, I've found that a flexible and integrative approach is the most effective way to create change. I use a variety of methods, including coaching, hypnotherapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, and mindfulness practices, along with innovative counselling and psychotherapy approaches to achieve results.
As each person is unique, they require an approach that is tailored to their specific needs and goals. Therefore I prefer to co-design a customised pathway for change with my clients.
My style is positive, holistic, integrative and inclusive of body, mind and spirit. I undertake professional development every year and enjoy expanding my knowledge about human behaviour, performance, growth, health and healing.
Increasingly I look to strengths-based approaches, along with mindfulness practices, to develop resilience and an increasing capacity for health, happiness and fulfillment. There are so many wonderful resources available today that it really is possible to take charge of your health and wellbeing.
I've also worked for various organisations as a communication coach and learning and development educator, providing professional development opportunities for managers—from frontline to senior executive—as well as for non-management employees. Over the years, I've also facilitated numerous seminars and workshops across a range of personal and professional topics.
Writing is a passion, leading to my authoring the book, “How to Get What You Want Without Losing It: Women’s Guide to Resolving Conflict” (Random House Australia 2002). This positive and practical guide helps women deal with conflict in their lives, whether with partners, friends, family or work colleagues. It's soon to be available on this website as an e-book called "Resolving Conflict with Power and Grace." (COMING SOON)
I also wrote the weekly "Coaching Column," for The Age during 2003-4, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm currently engaged in producing a range of e-books and podcasts.
